Kgungka Thurtu (Sister Girl) 2018
MURAL LOCATION
Goldfields Toyota (Laneway/Arts Centre Carpark)
60 Boulder Rd, Kalgoorlie
"This artwork is in honour of my dear younger sister who passed away shortly before I started painting this mural. I felt her spirit the entire time and remembered my own art journey that started because of her.
The features of the woman’s legs on the right reflect our family’s cultural connection to Esperance (Frenchman’s Peak). The middle represents Norseman/Ngadju country with a new generation forming. The left is her head which cascades hair from the Karlkurla (silky pear) vine to represent Kalgoorlie and the Wongkatha connections. The wildflowers remind us of our unique ancient culture created in the Dreamtime.”
