“Taking a walk through the heart of the Great Western Woodlands on a typically misty and crisp winter morning, the air is clean and fresh.
The lonely Goldfields Blackbutt stands out in the clearing, the red soil seems to climb up the bark towards the cone shaped grey top tree. The white trunks of the small trees glow amongst the acacia and saltbush. While painting this mural, several people from the outback could recognise this scene and quoted “I know where that is”.
Painting this mural as a Heartwalk Artist was a real pleasure, but to complete it in a week it had to be achieved with a very simple pallet, of Taubmans low sheen exterior, Hi Chroma Blue, Red, Yellow and Endure white. The textural effect on the clouds and trees was achieved with sea sponge and a combination of roller and brush work for the larger areas and tree trunks.
NB This shop front was my barber shop way back in the 60’s. I think that Bobbie Toia would be amazed!”
