The Knife's Edge Gallery Exhibition

The Knife’s Edge: video recently seen in Beijing is proudly presented by Erin Coates.
This exhibition is curated by Erin Coates.

The Knife’s Edge features seven artists - Li Ming, Wan Qingsong, Jin Shan, Moran Wong Wing-fat, Zhao Yao, Li Yongbin and Kan Zuan - who all live or actively exhibit in Beijing.  This exhibition is a collection of striking short videos that are filled with powerful and arresting moving images.  Drawing on elemental processes and realities of the everyday, the videos present diverse scenes:  a butchery, a snowfield, the bedroom of an elderly lady, a communal swimming pool, a bus travelling through the metropolis, the artist’s studio, a demolished building site.

This project was developed during a six-month residency that curator, Erin Coates, undertook in Bejing.  Drawn to artists practicing on the fringe of China’s burgeoning art market, research took the curator to studios in hutong labyrinths and the outskirts of Beijing’s ever-expending boroughs.

The tour of this exhibition is managed by ART ON THE MOVE.
This exhibition has been assisted by ART ON THE MOVE through the Exhibition Touring Program.
